Essential Question: Reconstruction?
SC Social Studies Standards:
8.5.1 Analyze the development of Reconstruction policy and its impact in South Carolina, including the presidential and the congressional reconstruction plans, the role of black codes, and the Freedmen’s Bureau.
8-5.2 Describe the economic impact of Reconstruction on South Carolinians in each of the various social classes.
8-5.3 Summarize the successes and failures of Reconstruction in South Carolina, including the creation of political, educational, and social opportunities for African Americans; the rise of discriminatory groups; and the withdrawal of federal protection.
8-5.4 Summarize the policies and actions of South Carolina’s political leadership in implementing discriminatory laws that established a system of racial segregation, intimidation, and violence.

YOUR TASK
Day 1:
1) Your Task for Day 1 is to read the articles and watch the videos to make notes so that you can demonstrate that you have an understanding of the Reconstruction. There may be some worksheets that you can download as a guide to helping you take notes.
2) You will be placed in Teams of 3-4. Once on a Team, compare your notes to get the best information for each Standard (as listed above). Weed out the non-essential information to create a collective set of notes. One Standard per page of notebook paper.
3) Plan the kind of presentation project you want to use to show your work, and begin the presentation with your team.
Watch the video by clicking HERE and take notes. You may watch it as often as needed and as time allows.
